To successfully finish your PTDE course, you must designate a parent or guardian to serve as your driving instructor. This designated instructor can be your parent, foster parent, legal guardian, grandparent, or step-parent, provided they possess a valid driver's license, have held it for a minimum of three years, and fulfill a few other prerequisites.
After signing up and making payments, we will send you an email with detailed instructions to kickstart your journey. This will include a link for acquiring the PTDE Program Guide from the TDLR at a cost of $20, which is a prerequisite for beginning the course.
Check the instructions of your PTDE course and complete the initial 6 hours of our Texas teen drivers education program. Take the written exam and permit test within the app. Once you successfully pass, we'll send you a Certificate of Completion, which you can use to obtain your learner's permit. (Note: Although students can commence their PTDE coursework at 14, they are required to reach the age of 15 before they can undergo the permit test.
We will provide you with a checklist of the necessary documents that you should bring to your local DPS office in order to obtain your Texas learner's permit. Following that, you will only need to undergo an eye examination.
Complete your remaining 26 hours of Get Drivers ED driving school and continue practicing driving with your parent instructor. It's important to diligently record all 44 hours of your behind-the-wheel driving sessions in your PTDE course.
Every Texas Drivers Ed student must fulfill the requirement of the Impact Texas Teen Drivers program (ITTD). a 2-hour video course available at no cost on the DPS website. The ITTD course addresses important subjects, including distracted driving statistics in Texas, and should be completed within 90 days before your final driving examination.
After successfully finishing the Texas parent-taught drivers course and completing your behind-the-wheel driving lessons, you just need to pass the Texas driving test by simply revisiting the DPS. That’s it, after the license is yours, you can drive freely on the road!
