Student Records, FERPA, and State Reporting
Get Drivers Ed treats every student's course records as confidential. Student records include identity and enrollment information, identity-verification answers and documents, the training agreement, login and logout times, time spent in each lesson, answers to course questions, test and final examination results, and certificate information.
We protect student records in line with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the driver privacy protection rules of the states where we offer courses. Student records are available only to:
- the student;
- the student's parent or legal guardian, if the student is under 18;
- Get Drivers Ed staff whose job requires access;
- the partner driving school the student enrolled through, if any;
- service providers that host or operate our platform for us, under confidentiality obligations; and
- the state agency that licenses the course (for Ohio students, the Ohio Department of Public Safety) as required by law, including to report course completion and issue certificates.
We do not sell student records or share them with third parties for their advertising or marketing. Course results and completion information are reported only to the student (or parent or guardian), the partner driving school the student enrolled through, if any, and the required state agency, through secure, encrypted channels.
Student personal information is encrypted when it is stored and when it is transmitted, and access is limited by role and logged. Before a student can take the course, we verify the identity of the student and, for students under 18, the parent or guardian, as required by state rules.
Access and correction. A student, or the parent or legal guardian of a student under 18, may ask to review the student's records or request a correction by contacting support@getdriversed.com. We will verify the requester's identity before releasing any records.

We keep student course records for at least five (5) years after the record is finalized, or longer if the state where the course is approved requires it (for example, Ohio requires three years under Ohio Administrative Code 4501-7-13), so that we can provide records to students, parents, and the state when required. After that, student records are permanently deleted. Billing records are kept for seven (7) years for tax and accounting purposes. Other personal information is kept only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, then deleted or anonymized.
We may use your data to display tailored advertising based on your preferences and activity. Our advertising partners do not collect personal information such as names or phone numbers but use aggregated data to present relevant ads.
In the event of a security breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you via email or other legally required methods.
